Basel is a beautiful international city and a major center for Life Science Research in the heart of Europe. Besides the Biozentrum, Basel is home to the Friedrich Miescher Institute, and the headquarters of pharmaceutical companies Novartis, Roche and Actelion. Basel can be easily reached by air via Basel-Mulhouse airport (10 min from the city) or Zurich airport (1 hour train ride from Basel).

Major non-scientific attractions in Basel are world class museums (Fondation Beyeler, Kunsthalle Basel, Tinguely Museum, the Art Basel (largest art fair in world), excellent music venues, and of course the proximity to the Swiss Alps.

The Scheiffele Lab in the Biozentrum is located only steps from the center of Basel city at Klingelbergstrasse 50/70, on the 6th floor, room 600.
